Russ Gentry, CPA

“I have a passion for training and educating people and seeing them develop into the best they can be.”

Russell Gentry is a Tax Manager at AGL. He has spent his entire 13-year career in public accounting, and 12 years specifically in tax.

He brings remarkable skills and knowledge to his clients, particularly in the areas of tax planning, preparation, and review. Before joining AGL, he honed his expertise at small local and large national firms and has experience working with clients in a variety of industries, including professional services, real estate, construction, IT, retail, restaurants, and healthcare.

Russ truly enjoys helping others and spends some of his time training the staff at AGL to help them become better preparers. He also works directly with clients on tax planning and strategy, coordinates and assigns tax work internally, reviews returns to ensure they are accurate, and analyzes and prepares responses to client IRS notices.

Russ earned his master’s degree in accounting with a specialization in tax and a minor in psychology from the University of South Carolina, where he also earned his undergraduate degree. He is a licensed CPA and a member of the AICPA and the Georgia State Board of Accountancy.

Outside of work, Russ spends his free time working out and spending time outdoors, often playing golf and ultimate frisbee. Additionally, he helps plan and organize an annual charity golf tournament in his father’s name, the Larry. E. Gentry Memorial Golf Tournament, the proceeds from which fund scholarships to two recipients from Saluda County, where he grew up. He is also deeply interested in political and societal issues that can make a difference in people’s lives, especially at a state and local level.
